Abstract(s)
The present applied research aims to understand the motivations for admission to the Military Academy in two cohorts of students: those who enrolled in the 1973 courses and those who enrolled 50 years later, in 2023. Through the literature review, some motivation concepts are identified and compared. Subsequently, the most well-known motivation theories are analyzed, and based on some studies carried out in other military institutions, the main motivations that influence entry into the military career are systematized. To achieve the objective of this research, interviews were conducted with some officers who belong to the 1973 cohort and a questionnaire survey was administered to the students of the 2023 cohort. With the result of the data analysis of each of the courses, their respective socio-demographic profile, and the main motivations for admission to the Military Academy were identified, to understand what their main differentiating variables are. Finally, based on the discussion of the results, it was found that the main motivations for joining the Military Academy are primarily institutional motivations, while occupational motivations are placed in the background.
