Abstract(s)
This intervention project reflects about issues such as Quality of Life and the Life Histories of Elderly People. Nowadays, ageing is a phenomenon that decisively shapes society. Gerontological social service is entrusted with knowing the causes and effects of social problems, individual and collective, of elderly people and also being able that these persons assume an organized action, not only preventive but also transformative. Their life histories are made of significative memories, which demarcate an elderly life’s path, and when they are reflected and shared, they will enrich not only this elderly’s daily life, but will also contribute for a better professional intervention, in this case of the social service graduate staff. We sought in this academic work to empirically validate innovative methodological approaches in working with elderly people, especially photo-elicitation; with the objective of analyzing the perceptions that a group of elderly people, residing in a Day Care Centre, have of the changes that happened in their quality of life. Thus, photography was used as a stimulus for the participants in this study and the narratives they produced about the images they visualized. Of the data obtained, we tried to identify aspects the elderly thought relevant in their quality of life, in such a manner that a sustainable future intervention, by the social service graduate staff, is done according to the needs and expectations of the elderly.
