Abstract(s)
While the diversity of studies on parenting practices and delinquency in adolescence, all point to fators in common, such as relationships with family and individual development, school, friends / peers and neighborhood. The aim of this research was to identify and assess the perceptions that children and adolescents have about the parenting practices of their parents in order to reach the predictors of delinquency that respondents are likely to develop in the near future. This investigation have a sample of 188 participants aged between 12 and 19 years of (98 female and 90 male) were administered two questionnaires, the Parental Bonding Instrument (PBI) (Parker, Tupling & Brown, 1979) adapted for the Portuguese population by Carrilho and Alexander (2008) which measures the perception of respondents about the parenting practices of their parents, and the Scale of Antissocial Behavior and Crime (Formiga, 2002, trans. by Soeiro & Sousa, 2009) that indicates how often the respondents perform some less socially approved behaviors in their day-to-day. Finally, in the results of the relationship of each instrument was found a positive correlation within the both instruments which means that the perceptions of parenting practices by respondent’s influences the delinquent behavior, even the correlation is positive moderated. The results showed that, both sexes are equally prone to involvement in delinquent behavior, so it means there is no differences between boys and girls to engage in delinquent behavior.
