Abstract(s)
In recent years, and with more top riders choosing to go barefoot with their horses, the discussion between the pros and cons of this method comparing to the conventional shoeing has increased. As the health of the hoof is essential for an optimal performance of the horse and its poor conformation/monitoring can lead to musculoskeletal injuries that can end its career, the objective of this report is to analyze bibliographic evidence and make a study in a small sample of shod and barefoot horses, thus comparing the quality of the shoeing/trimmings and how they interfere with the health of the hoof. The results showed a positive outlook of barefoot hooves compared to shod ones.
