Abstract(s)
The aim of this document, centered on the theme - Nurse-Person Relationship/Communication in a Palliative Situation, is to describe the process of acquisition and development of common and specific competencies of the specialist nurse in Medical-Surgical Nursing, in the area of Nursing for Persons in a Palliative Situation, in the context of clinical practice. Palliative Care (CP) is a way of providing health care centered on the sick person and their family, provided by a multidisciplinary team and aimed at a global approach to suffering, support in communication with the patient, family and professionals and other partners in society, and person-centered advance care planning. It is active and specific healthcare, which combines science and humanism (Portuguese Association of Palliative Care [APCP], 2024). The relationship/communication play a preponderant role in holistic and human care, centered on the person, being a good indicator of the quality of care and satisfaction of the person in a palliative situation. To write the internship report, we used a descriptive methodology, always from an analitical and reflexive perspective, based on the most current scientific evidence about the process of acquiring common and specific skills of the specialist nurse, in accordance with what is recommended by the Decree-Law n.º 429/2018. The activities carried out in clinical practice were then described, which furthered the development of common and specific skills in Medical-Surgical Nursing, in the area of Nursing for Persons in a Palliative Situation, the clinical contexts were characterized and the conception of care for two clinical cases followed during the Professional Nature Internship (ENP). Furthermore, a review of the literature was carried out regarding aspects relevant to the effectiveness of the nurse-person relationship/communication in a Palliative Situation. The entire process of acquiring and developing common and specific skills, as well as the research component, materialized by carrying out a literature review, aims to provide an improvement in the quality of care provided for people in a palliative situation, and in professional and personal development.
