Neste Trabalho de Investigação Aplicada foram abordados os contributos das indústrias militares portuguesas para a Artilharia, mais especificamente da Fábrica Militar Braço de Prata. No decorrer do trabalho é realizado uma contextualização das fases que a indústria sofreu, o seu papel na Guerra Colonial e por fim as consequências que se advieram com o término da guerra. Posteriormente, é feita uma comparação com a indústria belga, nomeadamente a FN Herstal.
A presente investigação tem como objetivo geral compreender as fases que as indústrias militares sofreram e como estas colaboram com a Artilharia.
Para cumprir este objetivo, a estratégia de investigação foi organizada em três fases: pesquisa histórica, analisando a história da indústria militar portuguesa; caso de estudo, pois o estudo foca-se no caso da Fábrica Militar de Braço de Prata e por fim, uma análise comparativa entre a Fábrica Militar Braço de Prata e a FN Herstal.
No que toca à análise documental, esta focou-se essencialmente na revisão de literatura proveniente de diversas fontes de conhecimento, como artigos científicos, livros e ainda trabalhos académicos, mas também das entrevistas feitas a pessoas que tiveram contacto com a Fábrica Militar Braço de Prata.
Como principais resultados obtidos, identificou-se quatro fases da indústria militar portuguesa, dedicada à Artilharia, o papel da Fábrica Militar de Braço de Prata para a sustentação da Guerra Colonial, mas também o seu encerramento e, por fim, semelhanças e diferenças quando comparada com a FN Herstal, a indústria que atualmente fornece equipamento ao Exército Português.
This Applied Research Paper deals with the contributions of the Portuguese military industries to artillery, more specifically the Braço de Prata Military Factory. The paper contextualises the phases that the industry went through, its role in the Colonial War and finally the consequences of the end of the war. Subsequently, a comparison is made with the Belgian industry, namely FN Herstal. The general aim of this research is to understand the phases that military industries have gone through and how they collaborate with artillery. In order to meet this objective, the research strategy was organised into three phases: historical research, analysing the history of the Portuguese military industry; case study, as the study focuses on the case of the Braço de Prata Military Factory and finally, a comparative analysis between the Braço de Prata Military Factory and FN Herstal. As far as the documentary analysis is concerned, it focused essentially on a review of literature from various sources, such as scientific articles, books and academic works, but also on interviews with people who had contact with the Braço de Prata Military Factory. The main results obtained were the identification of four phases of the Portuguese military industry dedicated to artillery, the role of Braço de Prata Military Factory in sustaining the Colonial War, but also its closure, and, finally, similarities and differences when compared to FN Herstal, the industry that currently supplies equipment to the Portuguese Army.
