Este trabalho de investigação tem como tema “A proliferação de armas de destruição maciça e a estrutura de resposta da North Atlantic Treaty Organization - Caso de estudo Exército português”.
O objetivo central na realização deste trabalho de investigação irá remeter-se para a identificação das capacidades e valências do Exército Português de acordo com os requisitos da North Atlantic Treaty Organization no âmbito da defesa Nuclear, Biológico, Químico e Radiológico em cenário de proliferação de armas de destruição maciça.
No presente trabalho pretende-se, identificar quais as competências principais que o Exército Português deverá possuir uma vez que pertence à North Atlantic Treaty Organization e se está preparado para lidar com esta ameaça global e atual.
Serão exploradas no decorrer da investigação as medidas adotadas por Portugal para combater a proliferação de armas de destruição maciça, de modo a perceber que capacidades demonstram ser evidenciadas como essenciais e aquelas que deveriam ser adotadas.
Uma vez que assistimos atualmente a uma evolução do vetor tecnologia, em todos os teatros de operações é pretendido com a realização deste trabalho verificar se Portugal acompanha esta mesma evolução para se manter atualizado face à ameaça com a aquisição de meios e equipamentos.
Assim sendo, o método indutivo foi escolhido para a elaboração deste trabalho de investigação, de forma a permitir um enquadramento conceptual sobre o tema em questão, em que se realizou uma revisão bibliográfica com análise de documentos com informações relevantes.
Todos os dados obtidos foram recolhidos através de entrevistas, que tiveram a sua contribuição na identificação das capacidades, potencialidades e vulnerabilidades da defesa Nuclear, Biológico, Químico e Radiológico do Exército Português, uma vez que o Exército tem de cumprir com os requisitos exigidos por parte da aliança North Atlantic Treaty Organization.
This research work focuses on the theme "The proliferation of weapons of mass destruction and 's response structure - Case study of the Portuguese Army." The main objective of this research is to identify the capabilities and strengths of the Portuguese Army in accordance with North Atlantic Treaty Organization requirements regarding Nuclear Biological Chemical and Radiological defence in the context of weapons of mass destruction proliferation. The present study aims to identify the key competencies that the Portuguese Army should possess as a member of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization and whether it is prepared to deal with this global and current threat. The research will explore the measures adopted by Portugal to combat the proliferation of weapons of mass destruction, in order to understand which capabilities are deemed essential and which ones should be adopted. Given the ongoing technological advancements in all theatres of operations, this research seeks to determine whether Portugal keeps pace with this evolution in order to remain up to date in the face of this threat through the acquisition of means and equipment. Therefore, an inductive method was chosen for the development of this research work to provide a conceptual framework on the topic at hand. A literature review was conducted, analysing documents containing relevant information. All data obtained were collected through interviews, which contributed to identifying the capabilities, potentialities, and vulnerabilities of the Portuguese Army's Nuclear Biological Chemical and Radiological defence, as the Army must meet the requirements demanded by North Atlantic Treaty Organization the alliance.
