Abstract(s)
In the context of the first Master's Degree in Medical-Surgical Nursing, focusing on perioperative care, this internship report is presented for the purpose of obtaining a Master's degree. Its main objective is to demonstrate critically and reflectively, based on scientific evidence, the activities and specialist and a master competency acquired during the internships. Along this journey, the care of individuals undergoing orthopedic surgery, with a focus on preventing surgical site infections (SSI), emerged as a prominent theme. Surgical site infections are indeed a health problem, representing one of the surgical complications that contribute to increased morbidity and mortality. Often, this phenomenon leads to longer postoperative hospitalization, additional surgical procedures, and intensive care unit admissions, resulting in high costs. Therefore, it is essential to reflect on measures to prevent SSI and how specialized nursing care can promote a quality and safe surgical experience for the individual and their family/significant person. This approach is necessary to maximize the effectiveness in preventing complications in this specific context.
