Abstract(s)
Portugal sente, a partir do final do século XIX, o impacto da Revolução Industrial tendo sido graças à Marinha que a sociedade portuguesa passou a ter acesso às novas tecnologias sendo a maior responsável pela divulgação de técnicas com grande impacto na sociedade da época, quer a nível metalúrgico, químico e elétrico.
Tratando-se de uma investigação em História, utilizou-se uma abordagem própria em que o conhecimento produzido resulta da análise da informação obtida através da pesquisa documental e bibliográfica.
Dos principais resultados obtidos, considera-se que a Marinha Portuguesa, no período em causa, foi responsável pela introdução de novas tecnologias. No entanto, esta processou-se de uma forma que não foi a ideal, foi a possível. Portugal passou por várias crises económicas que muito limitaram a capacidade dos programas navais (a génese da introdução das novas tecnologias), levando a que muitos deles não saíssem do papel.
Como conclusões mais importantes, de referir que face à complexidade tecnológica e aos pesados custos na aquisição dos equipamentos navais, os sucessivos governos foram adiando a aplicação dos programas concebidos para a modernização naval. Abstract: Portugal felt the impact of the Industrial Revolution from the end of the 19th century onwards and it was thanks to the Navy that Portuguese society gained access to new technologies, being the main responsible for the techniques dissemination with a great impact on society at the metallurgical, chemical and electrical level.
Since this is a History investigation, a specific approach was used, in which the knowledge produced results from the information analysis obtained through documentary and bibliographic research.
From the main results obtained it is considered that the Portuguese Navy was responsible for the introduction of new technologies in the period under review. However, this was not carried out in an ideal way but the possible way. Portugal went through several economic crises which greatly limited the capacity of the naval programs (the genesis of the new technologies introduction) causing many of them not to leave the paper.
As the most important conclusions, it should be noted that, given the technological complexity and high costs of naval equipment acquisition, successive governments have been postponing the programs application designed for naval modernization.
