Reconhecimento”.
Abstract This research study is under the theme “The Evolution of Reconnaissance on the Doctrine of Reference. The Reconnaissance Troop". It is included in the scientific area of tactics and aims to identify the changes in the doctrinal and organizational concepts of Reconnaissance Operations of reference units over the last two decades. It seeks to answer if the Reconnaissance Troop (ERec) of the Mechanized Brigade (BrigMec) follows the identified changes. In order to best accomplish this, the development of the Portuguese Reconnaissance Troop, as well as the armoured reconnaissance units of the US Army must be analyzed and compared. This will require a documentary analysis examining articles, field manuals, thesis and other publications with relevance in the subject. As main conclusions it can be said that the changes observed in the reference units are quite deep and meaningful. The units rely heavily on technology and conduct mainly stealth reconnaissance. In the analyzed Portuguese Reconnaissance Troop, such changes were not identified, and the organizational and employment concepts have not changed since the 1990s. The Mechanized Brigade Reconnaissance Troop does not follow the current organizational and doctrinal concept adopted by reference Units.
