Abstract(s)
Several studies have shown that police personnel carries out an activity that, as a result of direct contact with the citizen and resulting problems, that represent constant interactions with latent dangers, becomes a stress promoter, leading to burnout stages and, in last case, to suicide. The aim of this study was to determine the levels of vulnerability to stress and burnout in Portuguese security forces and services, namely in the Public Security Police. Throughout the bibliography review, the data suggests that vulnerability to stress may constitute a precursor of burnout, and there were positive correlations between some of the variables studied by the various authors. The conclusions show that burnout levels in the various personnel under study in the national scene are not very marked, despite the fact that some values obtained deserve attention, so it is urgent to define the path to be taken in this area.
