Abstract(s)
This report was drawn up as part of the Professional Internship with Report - Module I and II (MECESF) course during the Master's Degree in Community Nursing in the area of Family Health Nursing at the Porto School of Nursing. Its aim was to describe the process of developing and acquiring common competences for specialised nurses (Regulation no. 140/2019 of the Portuguese Nursing Association) and specific competences for nurses specialising in community nursing in the area of family health nursing (Regulation no. 428/2018 of the Portuguese Nursing Association). The following objectives were set for the completion of the development of competences: to provide care to families with elderly members whose adult children have reintegrated the family of origin, as a unit of care as well as its members, throughout the life cycle and at the different levels of prevention. The ageing of the population and the socio-economic crisis are associated with transitions that require families to readapt. If, on the one hand, the population is getting older, leading to a need for support, on the other hand, economic crises mean that adult children need to return to their families of origin. This return can be seen as a source of support on the one hand and a generator of stress and conflict on the other. hus, the provision of care for the family as a whole was developed for four families, two of which had to return home because of their parents' needs, and the other two because of their children's needs. A synergistic relationship was established with these families in order to promote their empowerment to support these transitions. The aim was also to sensitise the nursing team to improving the assessment and documentation of the care provided in the Family Health area. To develop the clinical component activities, the Dynamic Model of Family Assessment and Intervention (MDAIF) was used as a theoretical-operational reference, based on the Calgary Model of Family Assessment and the Calgary Model of Family Intervention (Wright & Leahey, 2012).
