Abstract(s)
abrangentes e interdisciplinares, exigindo medidas económicas e
O projeto
convívio e combatendo o isolamento social, promovendo a
fortalecendo laços familiares e a coesão social.” Lüscher et al.,
2015, 207)
meio urbano.
According to the UN's estimate, it is predicted that by 2050, the number of people aged 60 or older will exceed 2 billion, representing more than 20% of the global population (UN, 2023). This translates into a globally accelerated aging process that requires an urgent response. Solutions to this issue are comprehensive and interdisciplinary, necessitating economic and social measures, as well as healthcare planning. Urban planning and specialized equipment become a necessity, making available spaces suitable and conducive to use by a population that presents particular needs and constraints, especially regarding accessibility. The project developed in the context of this research proposes the development of urban equipment aimed at promoting social interaction between different generations, encouraging socialization and combating social isolation. It fosters the sharing and transmission of knowledge between generations, as “the interaction between different generations can promote the transmission of values, traditions, and family stories, strengthening family bonds and social cohesion” (Lüscher et al., 2015). The applied methodology places the target audience as the central element of the project, involving them in the validation of decisions and iterations made, and gathering information about the characteristics of the population to be studied. This understanding was made possible through the development of online questionnaires and physical evaluation of the object. The primary goal was to define solutions that meet the required needs of the target audience, aiming to integrate different age groups into their communities, contributing to an inclusive, communicative, healthy, and active society. The knowledge gained throughout the development process contributes to the fields of Design, Education, Mental Health, Gerontological Knowledge, and Social Well-being, as well as the future development of Design artifacts aimed at introducing social improvements in the urban environment.
