Abstract(s)
No decorrer do estágio o aluno
A realização deste
estágio e relatório permitiram ao aluno compreender melhor, numa área hospitalar
generalizada e numa área específica, a importância do enfermeiro veterinário.
The current internship report has as main objectives the presentation of the curricular internship accomplished by the student in the veterinary hospital Evidensia Trondheim Dyresykehus, located in Norway. The work done in a veterinary hospital, especially a referral one, shows an increase of the difficulties presented due to the increase in the influx of patients as well as the diversity of the many cases encountered, giving the possibility to practice all the knowledge gathered through 3 years of a college degree. During the internship the student participated in different areas related to veterinary nursing, in which he observed and helped 190 in-patient animals, from which 104 were dogs, 78 cats and 8 exotic animals. He also took part in 19 surgeries, followed and performed 96 anesthetic maintenances, and offered aid in many different complementary diagnostic exams. The main focus of the activities performed by the student were in the rehabilitation and dentistry field, where in the first, laser therapy and therapeutic massages were the focus, while in dentistry he participated in 52 dental cleanings and 26 tooth extractions. The animal rehabilitation has been a target of many scientific studies that have been proving the ability for rehabilitation to act in the treatment as well as the benefits produced in short and long range, for the sake of the pet’s quality of life. The therapeutic massages, being a therapy included in rehabilitation, deserve the focus by the important factor in producing relaxation in the animal, both at a muscular as well as psychological level, reducing the stress factors. Falls in this area the interest of the student in exploring and increase his knowledge related to manual therapy, focusing in therapeutic massages, not only due to the its importance in orthopaedic and neurological issues as well in aiding respiratory problems. The execution of this report and internship gave the student a better understanding, in a general hospital field as well as a more specific one, of the importance of veterinary nurses.
