Perspetivas sobre o envelhecer e suporte social em pessoas mais velhas a residirem num bairro social

dc.description.abstractObjetivos: Descrever as perspetivas sobre o processo de envelhecer e o suporte social em pessoas mais velhas a residirem em contexto de bairro social. Analisar a associação entre as perspetivas sobre envelhecimento, suporte social e características sociodemográficas. Métodos: Estudo transversal com uma amostra de conveniência, constituída por pessoas mais velhas (≥65 anos) a residirem num bairro social no concelho de Sintra. Estes foram avaliados com entrevista semi-estruturada, Questionário Breve de Perceções Face ao Envelhecimento (B- APQ) e Escala de Satisfação com o Suporte Social (ESSS). A análise estatística foi realizada com o programa IBM SPSS.Resultados: A amostra final (n=48; média idade=71,4 anos) era na maioria do sexo feminino (65%) e casada (42%). Constatou-se uma associação negativa entre os domínios Processo Crónico (PC) (rs=-0,320) e Representações Emocionais (RE) (rs=- 0,413) do B-APQ com a ESSS. Verificou-se também uma correlação positiva entre a idade e os domínios PC (rs=0,382) e RE (rs=0.296). Foi possível constatar uma diferença estatisticamente significativa quanto ao sexo, no domínio das Consequências Positivas, com o sexo feminino a apresentar uma mediana superior (mediana=12 vs 11, p=0,002). Verificou-se também que os viúvos revelaram uma mediana superior no PC (mediana=12 vs 10, p=0,022). Discussão: Este estudo demonstrou sobretudo que a perceção de um bom suporte social pode contribuir para uma perspetiva mais positiva do processo de envelhecimento. Deste modo, estes resultados reforçam a importância da implementação de medidas a nível social e político, que promovam a rede e suporte social nas pessoas mais velhas, sobretudo em contexto de bairro social.pt_PT
dc.description.abstractObjectives: To describe the perspectives on the ageing process and social support in older people living in a social neighborhood. To analyze the association between perspectives on ageing, social support and sociodemographic characteristics. Methods: Cross-sectional study with a convenience sample of older people (≥65 years old) living in a social neighborhood in the municipality of Sintra. They were assessed using a semi-structured interview, the Brief Aging Perceptions Questionnaire (B-APQ) and the Social Support Satisfaction Scale (ESSS). Statistical analysis was carried out using the IBM SPSS program. Results: The final sample (n=48; mean age=71.4 years) was mostly female (65 per cent) and married (42 per cent). There was a negative association between the Chronic Process (CP) (rs=-0.320) and Emotional Representations (ER) (rs=-0.413) domains of the B-APQ and the ESSS. There was also a positive correlation between age and the CP (rs=0.382) and ER (rs=0.296) domains. There was a statistically significant difference in terms of gender in the Positive Consequences domain, with females having a higher median (median=12 vs 11, p=0.002). It was also found that widowers had a higher median score in PC (median=12 vs 10, p=0.022). Discussion: This study showed above all that the perception of good social support can contribute to a more positive outlook on the ageing process. In this way, these results reinforce the importance of implementing measures at a social and political level that promote the network and social support of older people, especially in the context of a social neighborhood.pt_PT
