Esta dissertação analisa a perceção das comunidades rurais do concelho de Mafra sobre o risco de incêndios rurais e o programa "Aldeia Segura, Pessoas Seguras", criado após os incêndios devastadores de 2017 em Portugal. O estudo visa compreender o conhecimento e a preparação dos residentes face a incêndios rurais, bem como avaliar a eficácia e eficiência do programa na promoção da segurança comunitária. Foram realizados inquéritos a 205 residentes de seis freguesias de Mafra, com foco na perceção de risco, conhecimento sobre medidas de prevenção e resposta a incêndios, e familiaridade com o programa. Os dados foram analisados quantitativamente, utilizando estatísticas descritivas e testes de correlação.Os resultados indicam que 41% dos inquiridos identificam os incêndios florestais como o principal risco para as suas habitações, embora 78% considerem que as suas casas estão preparadas para enfrentar um incêndio. Apenas 43% dos inquiridos já ouviram falar do programa, e apenas 26% conseguem explicar o seu propósito. As medidas de prevenção mais sugeridas incluem a limpeza dos terrenos (31%), a fiscalização e aplicação da lei (21%), e o investimento em prevenção (20%).Conclui-se que o programa "Aldeia Segura, Pessoas Seguras" é crucial para incrementar a resiliência das comunidades rurais de Mafra, mas são necessárias ações para melhorar o conhecimento e o envolvimento comunitário. Recomenda-se o reforço das campanhas de sensibilização, a promoção de formação contínua e o apoio às famílias mais vulneráveis. Este estudo contribui para a compreensão das necessidades das comunidades rurais face aos incêndios rurais e para a melhoria das políticas de prevenção e proteção civil.
This dissertation analyzes the perception of rural communities in the municipality of Mafra regarding the risk of rural fires and the "Safe Village, Safe People" program, implemented after the devastating fires of 2017 in Portugal. The study aims to understand the residents' knowledge and preparedness in the face of rural fires, as well as to evaluate the program's effectiveness in promoting community safety. Surveys were conducted with 205 residents from six parishes in Mafra, focusing on risk perception, knowledge of fire prevention and response measures, and familiarity with the program. Data were analyzed quantitatively using descriptive statistics and correlation tests.The results indicate that 41% of respondents identify forest fires as the main risk to their homes, although 78% consider their houses prepared to face a fire. Only 43% of respondents have heard of the program, and only 26% can explain its purpose. The most suggested prevention measures include land clearing (31%), law enforcement and application (21%), and investment in prevention (20%).It is concluded that the "Safe Village, Safe People" program is crucial for increasing the resilience of rural communities in Mafra, but actions are needed to improve community knowledge and involvement. It is recommended to strengthen awareness campaigns, promote continuous training, and support the most vulnerable families. This study contributes to understanding the needs of rural communities in the face of rural fires and to improving prevention and civil protection policies.
