O presente Trabalho Investigação Aplicada (TIA) subordinado ao tema “Estudo comparativo entre duas linguagens de comunicação no Binómio Cinotécnico: o sistema tradicional e o sistema Signal, Meaning And Form (SMAF) ”, que visa esclarecer as vantagens que poderão
advir da implementação da Linguagem SMAF no Grupo de Intervenção Cinotécnico da Guarda Nacional Republicana (GNR).
Na sequência do presente estudo formularam-se hipóteses e questões de investigação que
procuraram dar resposta à questão central levantada: “Quais as vantagens que poderão advir da implementação da linguagem SMAF no Grupo de Intervenção Cinotécnico?”
Para a realização do estudo em questão, efectuou-se uma exaustiva pesquisa bibliográfica, que serviu de base para a elaboração da parte prática em que se compararam
estatisticamente as avaliações de binómios treinados segundo a linguagem tradicional com a de um grupo criado exclusivamente para este estudo, com recurso à linguagem SMAF.
Esses resultados foram posteriormente clarificados através de entrevistas semi-directivas, dirigidas a um conjunto de militares seleccionados de acordo com a sua experiência e conhecimento do tema.
Após a análise de dados efectuada conclui-se que a linguagem SMAF poderá constituir uma
mais-valia para o GIC, sendo as suas vantagens materializadas fundamentalmente por um cariz mais teórico, nomeadamente pelo planeamento obrigatório dos exercícios com aplicação dos princípios basilares da psicologia canina. Além disso possibilita a análise e
correcção do treino através de instruções mais precisas entre o instrutor e o tratador, que aliado a briefings e debriefings conduz a um aperfeiçoamento da comunicação entre o binómio cinotécnico.
Abstract It is in this context that we conducted the present Applied Investigation Work (TIA) entitled "A Comparative Study of two Means of Communication for the Police Canine Team: the traditional system and the system SMAF (Signal, Meaning and Form)”, the project‟s objective being to compare final results and if possible to uncover the possible advantages of an implementation of the later in the The Canine Intervention Group (GIC in portuguese) of the Republican National Guard (GNR in portuguese). Following the present study were formulated hypotheses and research questions that sought to answer the central question raised: "What are the advantages that may be arise with the implementation of language SMAF in the Canine Intervention Group (GIC)?" To conduct the study in question, (1) we conducted a comprehensive literature research, (2) we carried out a specific training program where all skills were described in SMAF, (3) we tested the two groups, and (4) we performed a statistical analysis of the final results. The results were further clarified through semi-directive interviews addressed to some of the military personnel involved in the project and according to their experience and knowledge of the subject matter. It is our conclusion that all factors considered, SMAF can be an asset to the GIC, particularly in the mandatory planning of the skills necessary for the police canine, the analysis and rectification of training and/or behavior problems, a more precise instruction of trainers and handlers, and an improvement in the communication between trainers and handlers in briefings and debriefings, as well as trainer/handler and dog.
