Abstract(s)
Enfermagem do Porto (ESEP).
desenvolvimento pessoal numa área específica do conhecimento. Selecionei “O cuidado
This report was conceived as part of the Master's course in Medical-Surgical Nursing, in the area of Nursing for People in Chronic Situations, at the Porto School of Nursing (ESEP). The aim is to describe the process of developing and acquiring common and specific competences for the Specialist Nurse in Medical-Surgical Nursing, in the area of Nursing for People in Chronic Situations The development of competences in the area of specialized nursing is important for the provision of safe, quality care, with the aim of achieving excellence in the profession. In order to obtain the title of specialist, a personal development project in a specific area of knowledge is required. I chose "Specialized care for people undergoing chemotherapy" as the main theme of the project. The complexity of the cancer patient requires nurses to develop specific skills in order to guarantee holistic, humanized and excellent care, based on disease prevention, the promotion of healthy lifestyles and adaptation processes, and adherence to and management of the therapeutic regime. Cancer patients can undergo a chemotherapy program as a way of treating their illness. Chemotherapy involves a set of symptoms that interfere with the patient's quality of life and require them to acquire self-management skills. Working on the patient's ability to self-manage the therapeutic regimen and the symptoms induced by chemotherapy is part of the daily intervention area for nurses working in an oncology setting. This report describes the clinical contexts in which I carried out the professional internships; the process of designing care explained through the development of two clinical cases; a critical reflection on the development of skills and how the clinical contexts and experiences I lived through contributed to the development of skills.
