O recurso aos implantes dentários para a reabilitação de espaços edêntulos quer no sector anterior, quer no sector posterior é nos dias de hoje o método de eleição. A literatura científica refere uma taxa de sucesso deste tipo de tratamento de 95% até 98%, durante 10 anos em função, o que tem levado a que cada vez mais médicos dentistas optem por este tipo de reabilitação oral na sua prática clínica. No entanto, apesar de uma excelente taxa de sucesso, podem existir complicações ao nível dos tecidos moles e duros que podem comprometer o tratamento reabilitador. Assim, fala-se de doença peri-implantar, mais concretamente mucosite e peri-implantite, que serão abordadas desde a fase de diagnóstico, passando pelos factores mais associados à etiologia da doença e a forma mais adequada de como contornar este obstáculo atingindo um tratamento que visa o bem-estar do paciente tanto a nível estético como funcional.
The use of dental implants for the rehabilitation of edentulous spaces, whether in the anterior sector or in the posterior sector, is today the method of choice. The scientific literature reports a success rate of this type of treatment from 95% to 98%, for 10 years depending on, which has led more and more dentists to choose this type of oral rehabilitation in their clinical practice. However, despite an excellent success rate there may be complications at the level of the soft and hard tissues that may compromise the rehabilitative treatment. Thus, peri-implant disease, more specifically mucositis and peri-implantitis, is discussed, which will be approached from the diagnostic phase, through the most associated factors with the etiology of the disease and the most adequate way of getting around this obstacle, reaching a treatment that aims the patient's well-being both aesthetically and functionally.
