Introdução: Experiências na infância influenciam o desenvolvimento psicológico e comportamental do indivíduo. Enquanto adversidades levam a comportamentos antissociais, ambientes positivos formam indivíduos socialmente responsáveis.
Difficulties in Emotion Regulation Scale – Short Form (DERS-SF). Conclusões: Estes resultados destacam a
Introduction: Childhood experiences influence an individual's psychological and behavioral development. While adversities lead to antisocial behaviors, positive environments form socially responsible individuals. These consequences are significant in emotional and behavioral formation. Objectives: This study aims to evaluate the relationship between positive and adverse childhood experiences, emotional regulation and aggression, in a sample of the general population and the prison population. It also aims to compare a sample of the general population and a sample of prisoners in relation to the experience of positive and adverse experiences in childhood, emotional regulation and aggression. Materials and Methods: A sample from the population and another from the prisoner population were used. Participants responded to the sociodemographic questionnaire, the Buss-Perry Aggression Questionnaire (BPAQ), Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACE), Benevolent Childhood Experiences (BCE) and The Difficulties in Emotion Regulation Scale – Short Form (DERS-SF). Results: There were negative correlations between the BPAQ and the BCE and between the BCE and the DERS and positive correlations between the BPAQ and the ACE and between the ACE and the DERS. The prisoner population suffered more victimization in childhood than the general population. The prisoner population has higher values of ACE, DERS and BPAQ. Conclusions: These results highlight the complex interaction between childhood experiences and their emotional and behavioral consequences. More studies are needed to better understand the role of BCEs and ACEs in the relationship between BPAQ and DERS, highlighting the differential effects in the general and inmate populations, in order to develop prevention and intervention programs.
