Resumo
Este estudo teve como objetivos caracterizar os usuários com
diabetes mellitus tipo 2, segundo variáveis sociodemográficas e
clínicas, e analisar os escores de conhecimento e atitude em relação
à doença. Participaram 1919 idosos atendidos em um serviço de
atenção básica à saúde de dezembro de 2009 a dezembro de 2011.
Para a obtenção dos dados, foram utilizados os Questionários de
Conhecimento (DKN-A), e de Atitudes Psicológicas do Diabetes
(ATT-19). A maioria da população caracterizou-se por idosos com
idade a partir de 65 anos; predominantemente do sexo feminino
(1705), alfabetizados (62%) e com sobrepeso. Quanto ao conhecimento
da doença, obtiveram-se escores superiores a oito, indicando
resultado satisfatório quanto ao autocuidado. Os escores obtidos em
relação às atitudes mostram dificuldades para o enfrentamento da
doença, apontando os resultados para a necessidade de implantação
de Programa de Educação em Diabetes às Unidades de Estudo.

The Diabetes Mellitus Knowledge (DKN-A) and Attitude (ATT-19) questionnaires were used for data collection. The majority of the population was ≥ 65 years old. Most were literate (62%); female (1705) and overweighted. About knowledge on the disease, the patients obtained scores > 8, indicating satisfactory results on self-care. Scores obtained regarding attitudes showed difficulties to cope with the disease. Results evidence the need to adopt a Diabetes Education Program at the studied units.
