Abstract(s)
classificadas as anemias presentes.
Anaemia, defined as a decrease in total erythrocyte count, in haematocrit and haemoglobin concentration, is the most common hematologic disorder found in veterinary clinical practice, and may be the cause of a disease or a marker of underlying disease. Anaemia can be classified based on the bone marrow response into regenerative or non-regenerative and with regard to the pathophysiological mechanism that gives rise to it, they are essentially of three types: haemorrhage, haemolysis or decreased production. The following report serves as a conclusion to the degree in Veterinary Nursing, presenting and reflecting on various relevant clinical cases observed during a curricular internship at Dovet Veterinary Clinic. The report is divided into two components: the first part consists of a monograph titled “Haematological parameters and Classification of Anaemia in dogs”, while the second part is comprised of a statistical analysis of clinical cases, their introduction, and a study developed on the respective cases. The general objectives of this internship include full participation in the clinic’s casuistic as well as the performance of functions in the area of veterinary nursing. During the internship, the student had the opportunity to be involved in several clinical fields, having observed and assisted in care of 477 animals, of which 389 were dogs, 45 were cats and 13 new animals of company (guinea pigs, rabbits, birds and turtles). To carry out this report, both information and blood samples were collected from all patients who presented at the clinic and underwent blood tests. In the same way, anaemic animals were identified and anaemias were classified. The veterinary nurse plays a fundamental role in carrying out laboratory analytical methods such as the blood count, for the diagnosis of anaemia and several other pathologies, allowing early diagnosis and ensuring the best possible treatment for all animals.
