Abstract(s)
A leucemia apresenta uma incidência significativa a nível mundial, é considerada uma doença neoplásica em que o normal desenvolvimento, diferenciação e produção das células sanguíneas são afetados. Pacientes diagnosticados com leucemia, sujeitos a terapia através da quimioterapia, podem desenvolver complicações orais que comprometem a sua qualidade de vida e bem-estar. Desta forma, torna-se crucial a todos os profissionais de saúde, incluindo os médicos dentistas, a realização de uma avaliação de carácter minucioso e delicado, antes, durante e após o tratamento quimioterápico, com o intuito preventivo e ou de redução da magnitude das repercussões orais decorrentes, quer da patologia, quer do tratamento em si, sendo o objetivo principal proporcionar uma melhor qualidade de vida a estes pacientes e uma normalização do bem-estar físico e psicológico dos mesmos. Para tal, é imperativo que o médico dentista detenha conhecimento das manifestações orais decorrentes desta patologia/tratamento e as suas manifestações clínicas, sendo este o objetivo desta monografia.
Leukemia has a significant incidence worldwide, is considered a neoplastic disease in which normal development, differentiation and production of blood cells are affected. Patients diagnosed with leukemia undergoing chemotherapy therapy may develop oral complications that compromise their quality of life and well-being. In this way, it is crucial for all health professionals, including dentists, to carry out a thorough and delicate evaluation before, during and after chemotherapy treatment, in order to prevent or reduce the magnitude of oral repercussions resulting from both the pathology and the treatment itself, the main objective being to provide a better quality of life for these patients and a normalization of the physical and psychological well-being of these patients. To this end, it is imperative that the dentist should have knowledge of the oral manifestations resulting from this pathology/treatment and its clinical manifestations, which is the purpose of this monograph.
