This internship report was developed as part of the Master's Degree in Mental Health and Psychiatric Nursing at the Escola Superior de Enfermagem do Porto, with the aim of demonstrating, in a well-founded and reflective manner, the acquisition of specialized competencies required for obtaining the title of Specialist Nurse and the Master’s degree in Mental Health and Psychiatric Nursing. The internship took place in three distinct clinical settings—community, specialized care units, and inpatient care for individuals in acute clinical decompensation—allowing for the practical application of acquired knowledge and the development of specialized interventions tailored to the needs of the assisted population. The implemented interventions focused on the nursing diagnosis of anxiety, with the planning and application of therapeutic strategies aimed at its management/self-management and consequent minimization. Psychotherapeutic interventions were used, with an emphasis on psychoeducation and the professional helping relationship, which are fundamental approaches in promoting self-awareness, reducing symptom impact, and consolidating emotional regulation. The implementation of these strategies contributed to improving adherence to the therapeutic process. Mindfulness was explored as a relevant theme in specialized practice, recognizing its impact on the management of stress- and anxiety-related symptoms, highlighting the potential of this approach in the development of competencies for both the specialist nurse and the master's degree holder, as well as in the humanization of care. The experience gained throughout the internship reinforced the importance of specialized nursing practice, grounded in empathy, therapeutic communication, and the use of innovative approaches. The reflective analysis enabled the identification of challenges and opportunities for improvement, consolidating essential learning for specialized professional practice adapted to the emerging needs of individuals requiring mental health care.
