Abstract(s)
Abstract The Army, as a ground force in the duty of a country, should take advantage of all means necessary and essential to its development and evolution. If the Army is developed, the country will be secure. That is, if the army is restructured, the success of its mission will be always guaranteed. This research work, has as main objective, to verify if air assets (aircrafts, helicopters, UAV’s, etc.) are really important and necessary for the Army. It should be stated that when it comes to the Army it is to be addressed in world wide terms and then in the Portuguese case. Mentioning also, specifically the German Army Aviation, as everyone knows, it is a reality for a long time. This work is about research, so it was used on several occasions, the direct observation, surveys and interviews to some officers with experience in the field of aviation, in order to analyze the cooperation between the Army and the air assets. The inquires were made in the Unidade de Aviação Ligeira do Exército in Tancos to a total of 67 men on which we count: 11 Superior Officers, 5 officers and 51 sergeants. Interviews were made to 5 pilots of the German Armyfrom the eeresfliegerwaffenschule, to 3 French army pilots on a mission on Kosovo and to one Portuguese Army pilot. Trough the results gathered, we stated that the combined work of both air and ground forces, grants a great boost to the success of the different types of missions. Thus being, air assets are advantageous for the Army, even despite their expensiveness regarding maintenance and infrastructure, because of its technological development, mobility and operability. It is proposed in particular to the Portuguese Army, to provide its Aviation unit with air assets.
