Abstract(s)
The following report is part of the third Master's Degree in Medical-Surgical Nursing at the São José de Cluny School of Nursing in which its main objective is to demonstrate the development of specialized skills in Medical-Surgical Nursing, in terms of a person in a critical situation, paying special attention to a person on the verge of renal failure requiring replacement of renal function, from the emergency room to intensive care. Throughout this report and through a critical and reflective analysis, it is exposed the process of acquiring and developing common and specific skills of the specialist nurse towards the person in a critical situation. The development of these resulted from a gradual process, supported fundamentally by theoretical, theoretical-practical and practical components, tutored by specialist nurses and experts, carried out in highly specialized services. The clinical practices described in this report took place in the Emergency Department of the Hospital Dr. Nélio Mendonça and in the Regional Medical Emergency Service of Civil Protection of the Autonomous Region of Madeira, in the Cardiothoracic Intensive Care Unit of the Hospital Dr. Nélio Mendonça, in the General Multipurpose Intensive Care Unit in the São João Hospital and in the hemodialysis service of the Hospital Dr. Nélio Mendonça. The methodology used in the demonstration of the developed route was descriptive, analytical, and reflective, supported by the references of the nursing profession and likewise supported by the most up to date scientific evidence. As a result of learning from this route, the report emphasizes the development of common and specific skills of the specialized nurse in Medical-Surgical Nursing; caring for the person experiencing complex processes of critical illness; stimulating the response in catastrophe situations and maximizing intervention in the prevention and control of infection as well as acquiring master skills.
