O Papel da Enfermagem Veterinária no pós-operatório de Cirurgias Ortopédicas em pequenos animais

O presente relatório descreve as atividades desenvolvidas pela aluna durante o estágio
curricular realizado na clínica veterinária Vet Peniche, no âmbito da Licenciatura em
Enfermagem Veterinária da Escola Superior de Biociências de Elvas. O estágio teve como
principal objetivo a consolidação e aplicação dos conhecimentos teóricos e práticos
adquiridos ao longo da licenciatura, através da integração nas diferentes áreas da prática
clínica veterinária, com especial destaque no acompanhamento de pacientes submetidos
a cirurgias ortopédicas. Foram desenvolvidas, neste período, 641 atividades nas áreas de
atendimento, consulta, internamento, laboratório, anestesia, cirurgia e cuidados de
enfermagem veterinária. Foram acompanhados 13 pacientes submetidos a um total de
15 procedimentos cirúrgicos ortopédicos, sendo a rutura do ligamento cruzado cranial
e as fraturas as patologias mais frequentemente observadas. A participação nos cuidados
pós-operatórios permitiu aprofundar conhecimentos relacionados com a monitorização
clínica, avaliação e controlo da dor, administração de terapêutica, vigilância da ferida
cirúrgica e prevenção de complicações. A análise crítica das atividades desenvolvidas
evidenciou a importância da enfermagem veterinária na recuperação dos pacientes,
destacando-se a necessidade de uma monitorização rigorosa, da comunicação eficaz com
os tutores e do cumprimento das recomendações pós-operatórias. Conclui-se que o
estágio contribuiu significativamente para o desenvolvimento de competências técnicas
e científicas fundamentais para o exercício da profissão, permitindo à aluna compreender
a relevância da enfermagem veterinária na promoção do bem-estar animal e no sucesso
da recuperação pós-operatória.
This report describes the activities carried out by the student during the curricular internship at the Vet Peniche veterinary clinic, as part of the Degree in Veterinary Nursing at the School of Biosciences of Elvas. The main objective of the internship was to consolidate and apply the theoretical and practical knowledge acquired during the degree, through integration in the different areas of veterinary clinical practice, with special emphasis on the monitoring of patients undergoing orthopaedic surgery. During this period, various activities were carried out in the areas of care, consultation, hospitalisation, laboratory, anaesthesia, surgery and veterinary nursing care. Thirteen patients who underwent a total of 15 orthopaedic surgical procedures were monitored, with cranial cruciate ligament rupture and fractures being the most frequently observed pathologies. Participation in postoperative care allowed for the deepening of knowledge related to clinical monitoring, pain assessment and control, administration of therapy, surgical wound monitoring and prevention of complications. The critical analysis of the activities carried out highlighted the importance of veterinary nursing in the recovery of patients, emphasising the need for rigorous monitoring, effective communication with guardians and compliance with postoperative recommendations. It is concluded that the internship contributed significantly to the development of technical and scientific skills that are fundamental for practising the profession, allowing the student to understand the relevance of veterinary nursing in promoting animal welfare and in the success of postoperative recovery.
