Abstract(s)
O Ensino Clínico I -
preparação, estudo e produção escrita do presente relatório, onde trabalhei as competências
The present report appears in the aim of the 1st Masters Degree in Mental Health and Psychiatric Nursing of the Escola Superior de Enfermagem São José de Cluny in consortium with the Escola Superior de Enfermagem S. Francisco das Misericórdias and Escola Superior de Enfermagem da Cruz Vermelha Portuguesa do Alto Tâmega, with the goal of presenting and publicly discussing it in order to obtain the title of specialist and the Master's degree in Mental Health and Psychiatric Nursing. Thus, this report, titled "Development of Specialized Competencies in Providing Psychotherapeutic Care to People with Mental Illness: Relaxation in Anxiety Control," aims to demonstrate the journey undertaken throughout this course in acquiring the common competencies of a specialist nurse, the specific competencies of a mental health and psychiatric nurse, and the Master's competencies, as outlined in Decree-Law No. 65/2018. My specific objectives in the completion of this report are to promote the practice of relaxation as a strategy for anxiety control; develop specialized skills in psychotherapeutic care in the relaxation areas; implement relaxation as a psychotherapeutic strategy for anxiety control in young adults; understand the role of relaxation as a self-control strategy for anxiety; and demonstrate the beneficial effect of relaxation in people with anxiety disorders. The achievement of the proposed objectives was made possible through the completion of Clinical Teachings in various internship settings that provided rich and intense learning, which was fundamental in consolidating knowledge and skills. Clinical Teaching I – Community Context was conducted at a Health Center in the Autonomous Region of Madeira; Clinical Teaching II – Psychiatric Inpatient Context (which includes Module I of the “Internship with Report” Course Unit) took place in an Acute Inpatient Unit of a Health House in the Autonomous Region of Madeira; and Clinical Teaching III – Context of Differentiated Responses (related to Module II of the “Internship with Report” Course Unit) was carried out in a differentiated inpatient service for people with addiction problems. Throughout these clinical teachings, I accumulated experiences and knowledge in providing care to people with mental health problems, their families, and communities, and had the opportunity to work towards the promotion and optimization of mental health in healthy individuals. This journey was carried out from a holistic perspective in the provision of specialized nursing care of high quality while seeking to consolidate knowledge and skills in a way that is grounded in the current literature. In Module III of the Course Unit "Internship with Report," related to the entire preparation, study, and written production of this report, I aimed to work on the competencies of analysis and critical-reflective reasoning and emphasize these Master's competencies throughout the public presentation and discussion. In choosing the theme of this report, I opted for the use of relaxation as an intervention technique for anxiety due to its therapeutic potential in controlling its signs and symptoms by stimulating physical and psychological sensations of well-being, tranquility, and peace, thus contributing to better overall mental health. As a result of this learning, I highlight: the development of specific competencies in implementing psychotherapeutic interventions in the area of relaxation; the acquisition of skills in promoting mental health and preventing mental illness in various contexts (individuals, groups, communities, and families); and also the enhancement of personal development and self-awareness competencies through the human, sensitive, and attentive approach that a specialist nurse in this field requires. The methodology used is descriptive, analytical, and critical-reflective, grounded in scientific evidence and the experiences lived throughout the journey.
