| dc.description.abstract | A mastigação unilateral, é um tipo de mastigação relativamente comum, sendo que a sua prevalência na população ronda entre os 45% e os 97%. Uma vez que não existe um consenso nas causas que levam a este tipo de mastigação e sendo que segundo vários artigos, esta condição traz consequências às pessoas, como a dor, perda de eficiência mastigatória, desgaste assimétrico dos dentes, assimetrias faciais, torna-se necessário tentar estabelecer um padrão de sinais e sintomas que permitam identificar precocemente este tipo mastigatório, com vista a estabelecer o melhor protocolo de tratamento. Efetuou-se uma pesquisa bibliográfica recorrendo às plataformas Scielo, Pubmed, Google Scholar, ResearchGate, ScienceDirect, pesquisando através das seguintes palavras-chave: “Unilateral Mastication”, “Chewing Side Preference”, “masticatory performance”, “Temporomandibular joint disorders treatment”, “Neurocclusal rehabilitation”. Esta revisão da literatura teve como objetivo efetuar uma análise das causas e consequências da mastigação unilateral, com vista a facilitar o diagnóstico desta condição numa fase inicial, ajudando na escolha do melhor tratamento. | pt_PT |
| dc.description.abstract | Unilateral chewing is a relatively common type of chewing, and its prevalence in the population goes from 45% to 97%. Since there is no consensus about the main cause that leads to this type of chewing and since this condition has consequences for people, such as pain, loss of masticatory efficiency, asymmetrical wear of teeth, facial asymmetries, it is imperative to establish a pattern of signs and symptoms that indicate the presence of this type of chewing at early stages, and find the best treatment protocol. Thus, a bibliographic search was carried out using the platforms Scielo, Pubmed, Google Scholar, ResearchGate, ScienceDirect, searching the following keywords: “Unilateral Mastication”, “Chewing Side Preference”, “mastigatory performance”, “Treatment of temporomandibular joint disorders”, “Neuroclusal rehabilitation”. The objective of this study is to analyze the causes and consequences of unilateral chewing, facilitate the diagnosis of this condition at an early stage and help to choosing the best treatment. | pt_PT |
