This study examines how the Portuguese political party Chega and its leader André Ventura employ the platform X (formerly Twitter) as a tool of digital populist communication, focusing on strategies of discursive simplification, disinformation, hate speech, and emotional appeal. Based on the analysis of 93 posts published between 1 and 15 May 2025, a period of intense political tension in Portugal, the research combines Critical Discourse Analysis (Wodak, 2015) with Entman’s framing model (1993), integrating both quantitative and interpretative approaches. The results reveal a predominance of threat and crisis frames, as well as the populist strategy of opposing “the people” to “the elite”, which structures the discourse around moral and emotional rhetoric. Posts marked by stronger emotional appeal and simpler language achieved higher levels of visibility and interaction, highlighting the role of algorithmic logics in amplifying polarising content. The study concludes that Portuguese digital populism represents a hybrid form of political communication, in which emotion, performance, and technology intersect to construct a new public sphere mediated by digital platforms
