Abstract(s)
Police training is essential so that police officers can perform their missions the best way possible. The Police Firearms Training Plan, created in 2010, has a paramount role in police officers training. The current study, made from the gathering and statistical analysis of quantitative data, aims to evaluate these first ten years of the Police Firearms Training Plan in Porto Metropolitan Command, through the research on the influential factors in the tests results: Target Practice, Written Test, Handling Practical Test and Certification. Using the data collected from the tests taken by the police officers of Porto Metropolitan Command, some conclusions were drawn: while Category and Function do not influence the result, Gender and Age do. In spite of the increasing evolution, the female gender achieves lower results. Besides, the older a police officer is, the lower the results are. It is important to point out that, despite the conditioning factors in the tests performance, the Police Firearms Training Plan turned out to be very efficient, the results are very encouraging and they have been evolving positively. Given these results, it is necessary to rethink the Police Firearms Training Plan in order to decrease the differences that have been found.
