| dc.description.abstract | As capacidades aéreas não-tripuladas constituem uma mudança transformacional na aplicação operacional do Poder Aéreo. A análise da problemática do emprego de Unmanned Aircraft Systems (UAS) na Guerra é um desafio complexo. A novidade dos drones nas guerras dos anos 90 do século passado, rapidamente se transformou numa dependência operacional das Guerras do Afeganistão e Iraque, onde proliferam actualmente mais de 7.000 plataformas. Nesse sentido, perscrutando os conflitos militares modernos é fácil verificar que estamos nas fases iniciais de uma verdadeira revolução em termos de precisão, vigilância, capacidades computacionais e de processamento de informação, que trarão mudanças profundas na forma de travar Guerras futuras. As capacidades operacionais disponibilizadas, o seu custo relativo baixo, o grau de flexibilidade militar e política e as melhorias na eficiência do treino, tornam os UAS um instrumento essencial do Poder Aéreo nacional. A questão fulcral é por isso determinar o quando, o como, e com que profundidade deverá a Força Aérea Portuguesa empregar UAS. Tendo em consideração a relevância estratégica do Poder Aéreo nacional, torna-se fundamental compreender os desafios e aproveitar as oportunidades que despontam desta transformação na aviação. Abstract The unmanned air capabilities are a transformational change in the operational application of airpower. The analysis of the employment of Unmanned Aircraft Systems (UAS) in War is a complex challenge. The novelty of the drones in the wars of the 90s of last century, quickly became an operational dependency in Afghanistan and Iraq, where currently are employed more than 7,000 platforms. Therefore, examining the modern military conflict is easy to see that we are in early stages of a revolution in terms of precision, surveillance, computing capabilities and information processing, which will bring profound changes in the way future wars will be fought. The availability of operational capabilities, its relatively low cost, the degree of military and political flexibility and the improvements in the efficiency of training, make the UAS an essential instrument of national airpower. The central issue is therefore to determine when, how and to what depth should the Portuguese Air Force employ UAS. Given the strategic importance of national airpower, it becomes essential to understand the challenges and opportunities that come out of this transformation in aviation. | por / en |
