Abstract(s)
The present work was carried out with the objective of finding the ideal fuel for the PSP Patrol Car, having as a background the public discussion about the advantages of electric vehicles in terms of the conditions they offer in terms of economy and pollutant emissions. The importance of the car in society was discussed, as well as the Patrol Car within the scop of PSP’s mission in the national territory. The basic principles for the operation of a common car engine were identified in order to understand the constiditions of use of the various fossil fuels on the market. At the same time, the state of the art of technological development of automobiles, totally or partially powered by electricity, was approached. The production of electricity in Portugal has been contextualized, namely the importances that each primary energy source has before the global energetic calculation and available in the common sockets of the public network. As a study methodology, three parameters were analyzed between two similar vehicles, one electric and other gasoline-powered, namely, comparison of efficiency, fuel consumption and pollutant emissions. It was verified that he electric vehicles, in the current context of the PSP, are not the most adequate.
