Abstract(s)
Considering the mission of the Public Security Police and the different contexts where it operates, humanization presents itself as an extremely important factor in its performance. This Police force is confronted on a daily basis with matters of criminal nature and other kind, which demand an attitude and posture suited to the dimension of each problem presented by citizens. Being the police response different for every situation, it is required that its elements possess, permanently, a strong human component. In consequence of the great technological development that happened over the years, online social networks have become the primary communication and information channel of the organization. Given that Prevention is a security paradigm, there is a need for the police to be in permanent contact with citizens and to stay close to them. Only then it will be possible for the police, besides knowing the problems that affect security, to be able to positively influence behaviors and thus mitigate its consequences. The proximity to the citizens isn’t only established through face-to-face contact. Today's society privileges the communication media, especially after the appearance of the Internet. In Portugal, around 75% of the population uses the Internet, making it essential for the police to be part of this information society. But it’s not enough that the police is present online, it needs to create a strategy that is creative and relevant in order to get closer to people, forming a long term bond that results in a relationship of trust. It is by following this strategy that the Public Security Police is constantly updated and able to respond with quality and effectiveness to the demands imposed by society.
