O segmento MICE tem um grande impacto no turismo. Por cada hora de trabalho no congresso, os participantes despendem 1,56 horas em lazer, efeito que também se reflete nos gastos realizados fora do hotel, nomeadamente em refeições. Por cada refeição realizada no hotel, 1,55 foram realizadas fora. O gasto médio na conferência situa-se nos 519,21€ e a estada média nos 5,4 dias. Estes resultados sugerem que o turismo de negócios é bastante impulsionador do turismo no geral, trazendo diversos benefícios ao destino. Existe um efeito spillover turístico que insinua que a estadia se pode estender para além do evento principal. É igualmente visível que, na sua maioria, os grupos registam maior duração de estadia do que a duração de eventos.
Constatou-se que, das mais variadas nacionalidades, a maioria era proveniente da Europa e, em seguida, do continente americano. No entanto, os países asiáticos já se fazem notar neste segmento. A maioria dos pedidos para os grupos que se concretizaram em 2018 foram efetuados por agências internacionais, seguido do cliente direto e, por fim, por agências nacionais. São vários os tipos de indústrias que constituem a amostra, sendo que a maior parte das empresas clientes finais são de média dimensão.
The MICE segment has a big impact on tourism. For each work hour, MICE tourists had 1,56 leisure hours and for each meal on the hotel, 1,55 meals were made outside the hotel facilities. These tourists had an average expenditure of 519,21€ that included at least their accommodation and main event registration fee, for an average stay of 5,4 days. These results suggest that business tourism is quite impeller of the tourism industry, bringing many benefits for the destination. There is a spillover effect that implies the stay can last after the main event. It equally notable the accommodation duration is bigger than the events duration. From the many registered nationalities, the most of them came from Europe, following by the American continent. There were also Asian countries present in the sample. Most of the Requests for the confirmed group that happened in 2018 were made by international agencies, following by the client directly and lastly by national agencies. There are many industry types on the sample and the majority of the end clients is medium capitalization companies.
