Abstract(s)
This document, titled internship report, aims to materialize the outcomes of a two-year journey related to the conclusion of a Master's Degree in Medical-Surgical Nursing, specifically focusing on Critically Ill Individuals. Its elaboration was grounded in the integration of the theoretical component of this master's program, as well as my experiences and reflections following immersion in three clinical teaching contexts, namely an Emergency Department, a Neurocritical Intensive Care Unit and a Multipurpose Intensive Care Unit. The main goal of the internship of professional nature (modules I and II) was to develop specialized clinical skills. This process of acquiring and developing skills was particularly focused on individuals in critical condition, namely those presenting elevated body temperature, however my journey was not limited to this theme. Therefore, I sought to make the most of all the experiences and opportunities that arose, aiming for the development of all common competencies of the Specialist Nurse and all specific competencies of the Specialist Nurse in Medical-Surgical Nursing to the Person in Critical Situation. This report is organized into three chapters: a critical description of the three clinical teaching services that served as context for this master’s practical component and their specificities that proved relevant for achieving the course objectives; three case studies that aimed to reveal how the care planning process was conducted for all patients that I cared for during this internship; a reflection about my journey towards developing the common and specific skills of the Specialist Nurse in Medical-Surgical Nursing to the Person in Critical Situation. Overall, this document aims to reflect my learning process throughout this cycle of studies, in addition to the professional and personal transformation resulting from it.
