Abstract(s)
Abstract: Nowadays Portugal is still living in the aftermath of a big sports event, the 2004 European Football Championship that, although brought some benefits, also convey big expenses for local authorities and the Portuguese government. This event left some good examples, like the training centres or the internship centres that were built to support the needs of the selections participating in the championship. The main object of this dissertation is to design a training and sports formation centre, thus for, a research strategy was drawn to meet two specific goals: explore the types of training and sports formation centres in terms of distribution and special needs; identify the needs and quality of the existing sports centres in the region, relating the proposed building with the ones already existing, trying to cover any spotted vacancies. To meet these goals, it was applied different research methods to gather, and organizing data, based on the study of official documents and bibliography as also architectural projects. Characterization charts were made to study other training centres, combined with direct observation for the study of the place. This analysis permitted to achieve important conclusions, latter applied on the architectural project, especially in a more conceptual area. This dissertation was divided in two parts: writing elements and drawing elements. On the first there is the investigation that took place as a basic stone for the project, represented on the second part. The approach of this dissertation aims to focus especially on the sports centres, and the training and formation centre, and the potentially they endure to became a reference on some regions, thus on the last years they showed the ability to be sustainable projects, bringing dynamism to peripheral regions and meeting the sports needs, both in terms of professional practice as to amateur, touristic or social use.
