Abstract(s)
Uterine infections are common diseases that affect dairy cows during the postpartum period. Uterine health is often compromised in cattle due to postpartum contamination of the uterine lumen by microbial agents that might cause clinical disease. This frequently occurs and represent economic losses for the farms due to treatment costs, decreased reproductive efficiency, discarded milk and increase culling rates. Although widely discussed some aspects of this disease remain under discussion, namely on their definition, diagnosis, treatment and influence in future reproductive performance. Thus the aim of this work is to clarify this aspects based on a bibliographic review. Throughout this literature review, we addresse the definition, classification, prevalence, economic impact, risk factors, the different methods of diagnosis and treatment protocols to treat this diseases.
