Abstract(s)
This study addresses the importance of technical-economic analysis of dairy cattle farming in organic and conventional production modes. A relevant topic for both producers and consumers. The main objective is to compare these two production systems in terms of productive efficiency and economic viability. In the methodology, two representative farms from the Northeast region in France, which have both production systems, were selected. Analytical methods were used to compare milk production and quality, animal nutrition, and some economic aspects of the farms. The collected data included milk production and composition, some production costs, and milk selling prices. The results revealed that although organic milk production offers a higher price to the producer, the gross margin is higher in conventional farms. In terms of milk quality, no differences were found between the two systems. The conclusions indicate that, despite differences in management systems and farm profitability, both systems can be viable if well managed. The choice between organic and conventional production should consider factors such as the market, production and sale regulations of milk, and consumer preferences.
