Abstract(s)
estabelecimentos prisionais. Pretendemos ainda entender as medidas que têm
The terrorist attacks that took place in Madrid in 2004 and in London in 2005 have awakened a growing concern in Europe regarding radicalization and Islamist terrorism. Prisons are one of the places that have been used for radicalization and recruitment to perpetuate these attacks. Even though these places should contribute to a resocialization and disconnection from violence, they have increasingly become stages for the spread of radical Islam. Islamic extremists can be very charismatic and even threatening, taking advantage of the vulnerability of many young inmates. However, it has also been found that in Europe these young people who are radicalized are national citizens, namely from countries where there is a greater Muslim diaspora. With this being said, through a literature review, this study aims to understand the security challenges posed by the presence of jihadists in prisons. We also intend to understand the measures that have been used to face these challenges.
