Abstract(s)
seu autoconceito positivo; alguma sintomatologia depressiva em quase metade destes idosos;
In this report we present the work done during our curricular internship, which took place in a day care center, within the Master in Social Gerontology 2019-2021. We chose the methodology of participant research-action and we began with the social diagnosis, given the potentialities and problems of the day care center, and the diagnostic evaluation of the elderly. The diagnosis allowes, to understand the daily life of these elderly people and the services provided to them, as well as the activities carried out. The result showed their good level of cognitive functioning; their positive self-concept, some depressive symptoms were found, in almost half of the inquired seniors; their little dependence on instrumental activities of daily living, in which most of them are autonomous; their social isolation, largely filled with going to the day care centre, their family support, and low family isolation in these elderly people. It also allowed us to define four goals that supported the intervention: to promote the identity of the elderly, to promote activities of socio-cultural animation on the occupation of the elderly’s leisure time, to promote the experience of spirituality as an important strategy of meaning for life and to promote the strenthening of social ties. The perceptions of the elderly about the project were positive, considering the participation in the activities, the learning they fostered, its importance and contribution to the construction of a more cohesive and participative group. The intervention process revealed that the importance of creating new dynamics was also positive to accomplish the mission of the Day Care Center.
