Abstract(s)
This report was developed within the scope of the master’s degree “Enfermagem de Saúde Infantil e Pediátrica” and accomplished in “Escola Superior de Enfermagem do Porto”, as part of the Professional Internship with report - Module II, to obtain the master and specialist title at this subject. This report focuses on a critical and reflexive analysis regarding all the activities and interventions that were developed in clinical teaching as well as their contribution in the development of the common specialist nurse skills and specific specialist nurse skills in pediatric and child health nursing, as avowded by the "Ordem dos Enfermeiros". In this way, here are described the experiences under the influence of the critical thinking grounded in evidence-based and the cases studies elaborated in different contexts of the internship. This report also presents the arising activities resulting from the project for the development of specialized clinical skills centered on the assessment of child development, that were based on a bibliographic study of the subject, and are privileged synthetized analysis of the results obtained, as well as the originated proposals. The study resulting from the implementation of the project has revealed that, now, the infant development assessment supported by the Mary Sheridan Rating Scale does not encompass all fundamentals of the psychomotor development. Given this, it does not adequately comply to all the necessities of the pediatric population in this area. The sensory processing is one of the neglected fundamentals in this evaluation, on which I focus a more in-depth assessment given its implication on the child´s health and well-being.
