Abstract(s)
The presented report is an integral part of the curricular unit "Professional Nature Internship - Module II", included in the Master's Degree in Child and Pediatric Nursing, inserted in the postgraduate certificate of the Oporto Nursing School, for the academic year 2023/2024. This report aims to present the process of developing skills for Specialized Nurses, particularly in Child and Pediatric Nursing with the intent of obtaining the master's degree and the title of Specialized Nurse. This method relied on the e4nursing platform, which is based on nursing ontology, for the development of care concepts that explain the thought process and the clinical skills acquisition throughout the placements. The activities carried out during the internship in different contexts: neonatal intensive care, community care, pediatric emergency, and pediatric oncology ward, were analyzed from a critical-reflective perspective. Multiple activities were conducted within different circumstances, focusing on the subject studied in this report: parental spiritual distress caused by changes in their children's health condition, which are stress- inducing situations, and the implementation of nursing care through interventions that focuses on the mitigation or resolution of this issue. In this assignment , spiritual distress is considered a rupture with what the person believes about life and may or may not be related to Divinity. Reflective meetings were held with nursing teams to address the most frequent signs of parental spiritual distress, spiritual care interventions implemented by them, and barriers to spiritual care in different contexts. It is concluded that the completion of this placement and this report were essential for the development of specialized nursing skills, which are fundamental for improving the quality of care provided. Similarly, the study of spiritual distress and spiritual care allowed the improvement of professional performance in caring for the person as a holistic being.
