| dc.description.abstract | A xerostomia é um sintoma cada vez mais reportado pelos indivíduos, comprometendo o bem-estar e a qualidade de vida, sendo primordial conhecer os seus fatores causais, os meios de diagnóstico e as suas opções de tratamento. Neste sentido é importante conhecer a anatomia, histologia e fisiologia das glândulas salivares para posteriormente debruçar sobre este tema. A administração crónica de um ou mais fármacos é uma realidade com que os clínicos se debatem diariamente, sendo uma das causas mais frequente de xerostomia. É do interesse clínico e científico identificar os distintos fármacos com potencial xerostomizante, de forma a gerir os efeitos adversos destes fármacos com uma proposta terapêutica adequada, minimizando o impacto negativo na qualidade de vida dos indivíduos. Os objetivos da presente dissertação foram descrever a xerostomia, identificar os fármacos com potencial efeito adverso xerostomizante e identificar as propostas terapêuticas mais eficazes no tratamento da xerostomia em indivíduos polimedicados. Deste modo foi feita uma pesquisa bibliográfica, utilizando os motores de pesquisa MEDLINE/Pubmed e a “Cochrane Library” empregando as seguintes palavras-chave: “Xerostomia”, “Medication”, “Quality of life” e “Salivary gland dysfunction”. Os critérios de inclusão para a seleção dos artigos foram: os artigos publicados nos últimos 20 anos (1998-2018) que englobassem as palavras-chave supracitadas e que apresentasse uma direta associação ao tema abordado. Os critérios de exclusão permitiram excluir artigos que não estavam diretamente associados ao tema, estudos que não foram conclusivos ou que a sua data de publicação excedesse os 20 anos. | pt_PT |
| dc.description.abstract | Xerostomia is a symptom that is being reported frequently which compromise the well-being and quality of life of people, therefore is important to acknowledge the causes, the diagnosis methods and its treatment options. Meanwhile it´s fundamental to comprehend the anatomy, histology and physiology of the salivary glands for further knowledge of xerostomia. The most frequent cause of xerostomia is the chronic uptake of one or more drugs which is a reality that most clinicians struggle daily. It is of clinical and scientific interest to identify the different drugs which have potential to cause xerostomia in order to manage the adverse effects of these drugs with an adequate therapeutic proposal, minimizing the negative impact on the quality of life of the individuals. The objectives of this dissertation are to describe xerostomia, to identify all kind of medication that might cause xerostomia and to identify the most effective therapeutic proposals in polymedicated patients. A bibliography research was conducted, using the search engines MEDLINE/Pubmed and Cochrane Library with the following key words: “Xerostomia”, “Medication”, “Quality of life” and “Salivary gland dysfunction”. The inclusion criteria for the selection of articles were articles published in the past 20 years (1998-2018) which included the keywords mentioned above and reported a direct association to the topic addressed. Exclusion criteria was the exclusion of articles that were unrelated to the topic, studies that were not conclusive or that their publication date exceeded 20 years. | pt_PT |
