Abstract(s)
Esta dissertação insere-se no âmbito do Mestrado em Design e Cultura Visual, na vertente de Design Visual, e tem como principal objetivo explorar o universo visual do Metal Extremo para se poder identificar as suas tendências, relações e inspirações.
A pesquisa bibliográfica e documental e a nossa observação direta, por sermos fãs desta corrente musical, permitiram formular como hipótese a existência da influência do movimento Romântico neste universo visual.
Usámos uma metodologia mista que consistiu na combinação de pesquisa de campo, relacionada com a recolha de 80 capas de álbuns de Metal Extremo, compreendidas entre os anos de 2000 e 2015, onde se analisou a cor, os tipos de letra, as componentes da imagem, os logótipos e a imagem em palco, para além de obtermos também dados quantitativos por meio de questionários a designers, músicos, fãs e outros.
Com este trabalho, constatamos que existem influências de movimentos artísticos antigos na imagem visual deste género musical, embora não se prendam apenas com o Romantismo.
Esta pesquisa contribuiu assim para o inicio do estudo da Cultura Visual deste género musical associando-o à área do Design.
This dissertation falls in the scope of the Master in Design and Visual Culture, especifically in Visual Design, and its main objective is to explore the Extreme Metal visual universe, in order to discover its tendencies, relations and inspirations. The bibliographical and documental research and our direct observations, being fans of this musical genre, lead to our hypothesis of the existence of an influence from the Romantic movement in this visual universe stemmed. We utilized a mixed methodology, consisting in a mix of field research, collecting 80 Extreme Metal album covers, released between 2000 and 2015, where we analysed the color, typefaces and the components of image, logos and stage image, with the collection of quantitative data, by means of questionaires to designers, musicians, fans and others. With this work, we conclude that there are influences from older artistic movements in the visual image of this musical genre. However, these influences are not limited only to the Romantic movement. This research is a contribution for a beginning of a study of the Visual Culture of this musical genre, associated with the domain of Design.
