Abstract(s)
In recent years, the balance between personal and professional life (WLB) has become increasingly important for both individuals and organizations. However, market demands and the increased workload compromise employees' well-being and quality of life. Excessive work, characterized by long hours, strict deadlines, and continuous demands, can lead to emotional exhaustion, making it difficult to balance professional and personal contexts. This research focused on this topic and aimed to understand how weekly working hours and emotional exhaustion mediate the relationship between workload and WLB. The study involved 212 professionals, aged between 20 and 64 years. Data were collected using the Role Overload Questionnaire, the Work-Life Balance Scale, and the Emotional Exhaustion Scale. The results showed that WLB is negatively affected by workload and weekly working hours. It was also found that higher levels of emotional exhaustion make it more difficult to reconcile personal and professional contexts. Data analysis further revealed a serial mediation effect in which workload negatively influences WLB through weekly working hours and emotional exhaustion.
