| dc.description.abstract | Objetivo: Estudar a prevalência do desgaste dentário em crianças com idades dos 7 aos 18 anos que frequentam a Clínica Dentária Egas Moniz. Relacionar o bruxismo com o sexo, a idade, a etnia e os hábitos de sono. Compreender qual o melhor momento para intervir. Materiais e métodos: Durante o período de 7 meses, foram analisadas 76 crianças, de ambos os sexos, que compareceram à consulta de odontopediatria. A recolha de dados foi realizada através de um inquérito aos pais e do exame clínico intra-oral com recurso a kits de observação. Foram investigadas as seguintes características: ranger e apertar os dentes durante a noite e durante o dia, hábitos noturnos e colocar objetos na boca e/ou roer as unhas. Resultados: A amostra estudada apresentou uma baixa prevalência do bruxismo para a faixa etária correspondente à dentição mista com uma taxa de 14,5%, e para a faixa etária representante da dentição permanente cuja taxa é 18,4%, quando comparadas com estudos epidemiológicos semelhantes. Os graus mais prevalentes foram o grau 1 com 53,9% e o grau 0 com 31,6%. Foi encontrada uma relação estatisticamente significativa entre a gravidade e a faixa etária e entre a gravidade e ranger e/ou apertar os dentes durante o dia. Conclusão: A prevalência do provável bruxismo é de 32,9%. Os resultados provaram que não existe evidência de associação significativa entre o género da criança e a gravidade do desgaste, e ainda, foi confirmada a existência de associação entre a faixa etária e a gravidade do desgaste dentário. | pt_PT |
| dc.description.abstract | Objectives: To study the prevalence of tooth wear in children between the ages of 7 and 18 who attend the Egas Moniz Dental Clinic. To correlate bruxism with gender, age, ethnicity and sleep habits. Understand the best time to intervene. Materials and methods: Over a period of 7 months, 76 children of both genders who attended the pediatric dentistry clinic were analyzed. Data was collected through a survey of parents and an intraoral clinical examination using observation kits. The following characteristics were investigated: teeth grinding and clenching at night and during the day, sleep quality, snoring, drooling, sleeping with the mouth open and putting objects in the mouth and/or biting the nails. Results: The sample studied showed a low prevalence of bruxism, both for the age group corresponding to the mixed dentition with a rate of 14.5%, and for the age group representing the permanent dentition with a rate of 18.4%, when compared to similar epidemiological studies. The most prevalent grades were grade 1 with 53.9% and grade 0 with 31.6%. A statistically significant relationship was found between severity and age group and between severity and grinding and/or clenching teeth during the day. Conclusion: The prevalence of probable bruxism was 32.9%. The results showed that there was no evidence of a significant association between the child's gender and the severity of tooth wear, and confirmed the existence of an association between age group and the severity of tooth wear. | pt_PT |
