Abstract(s)
Terrorism presents itself as one of the problems facing nations. After the September 11 attacks in New York, the United States of America, the problem has taken on a large dimension, becoming a challenge to the world. A new division began between the West and the East, and between religions, mainly with the intensification of the fights between the Islam and the Christianity. Countries that have suffered terrorist attacks, especially the US and European nations, have turned their efforts to scientific research to better understand and address the problem. If a nation has a written document with guidelines for the prevention and fight against terrorism, these actions will be more effective when compared to other nations that do not organize for this purpose. Rooted reasoning’s that South America is immune to terrorism, and also that Brazil is a peaceful country by nature are debated and confronted in this study. Social problems generated by drug trafficking, and therefore of weapons, lead to violence and can open doors to terrorism. This dissertation aimed to better understand this current phenomenon, to show Brazil's vulnerabilities in relation to these issues and to propose contributions to a National Strategy to Combat Terrorism.
