Abstract(s)
policiais e militares, nacionais e internacionais.
formandos.
Shooting proficiency is a fundamental skill for police professionals and requires regular training. Virtual Reality (VR) has emerged as a technology with potential for application in this field. This dissertation analyzes the potential of VR in the initial shooting training of the Public Security Police (PSP), seeking to understand whether its adoption represents added value for the technical and operational qualification of future police officers. The study began with a theoretical analysis of the importance of training in the PSP, the challenges of current shooting training and the benefits and limitations of applying VR in national and international police and military contexts. The empirical component was based on conducting and analyzing semi-structured interviews with shooter trainers. The results show significant limitations in the current model, namely the shortage of ammunition, the lack of realism in training scenarios, logistical costs and the absence of stress training. On the other hand, VR proves to be an innovative tool capable of providing immersive and controlled environments, increasing trainees’ motivation, safety and effectiveness. The conclusion is that, when integrated in a structured way and complementing existing methods, VR can make a decisive contribution to improving initial shooting training in the PSP, boosting police performance in real situations.
