Abstract(s)
The Professional Internship Report described reflects a crucial journey within the context of the Master's Degree in Maternal and Obstetric Health Nursing, highlighting the process as a central stage in consolidating the specific competencies of the Specialist Nurse in Maternal and Obstetric Health Nursing. The internship took place in a general and specialized hospital between September 13th and June 28th, and allowed for the deepening of theoretical knowledge and the acquisition of technical-practical skills in three key areas: pregnancy complications, Labor and Delivery, and Postpartum Care. The purpose of this report is to describe and analyze the development of the specific competencies outlined in the Competency Regulation for Specialist Nurses in Maternal and Obstetric Health Nursing, as established by the Portuguese Order of Nurses. Critical reflection on the experiences described is an essential part of this document, enabling a careful analysis of the interconnection between theory and practice, as well as problem-solving abilities in various situations. This report also explores an investigative approach to the integration of skin-to-skin contact between the father and the newborn after a cesarean section, a topic that has received increasing attention in the literature, particularly due to its relevance in promoting the father-child bond and its effects on the newborn's hemodynamic stability. The integrative literature review conducted reinforces, on one hand, the importance of the Specialist Nurse in Maternal and Obstetric Health Nursing in promoting skin-to-skin contact between the father and newborn when the mother is unavailable, and on the other hand, highlights the relevance of continuous research to support and enhance the quality of care provided. Thus, this report represents a fundamental contribution to the acquisition of specific competencies for the Specialist Nurse in Maternal and Obstetric Health Nursing, emphasizing the importance of clinical practice and the ability to link theory and practice.
